New warning sticker
«
on:
January 25, 2010, 08:34:16 PM »
I recently purchased a used S&W 638 with an LG 305 grip.
I saw in the manual that CT recommends placing the label forward of the grip on the gun itself.
The problem is this...
The warning sticker had been placed on the grip just below the laser hump.
The label is curling up on one corner and it can not be stuck back on.
Can someone order a new sticker?
Thanks, GeneZ

Do we have to have them? If we do?
Its the little sticker on label that warns of the danger of the laser beam.
This is what it says in the manual:
LASER SAFETY LABELING
IMPORTANT: Laser products must only be operated with the safety label applied to the firearm.
Labels could not be affixed to the product but are supplied and must be installed
as indicated below:
1. Before handling any firearm, check several times
both visually and by feel that it is unloaded.
Check again.
2. Attach the “Danger” warning label to the outside
of the firearm.
3. Attach the “Aperture” warning label with the arrow
pointing to the laser diode lens.
Look at it in the manual (PDF). Arrow down to 4.

It was not my intent to sandbag you. I was being facetious. With over 100 posts, I've probably encountered the sticker issue before.

Just took your hint and tried another search. Came up with this...

Personally, I would just as soon remove the label. It would be nice to be able to have a new label on hand in case I wish to resell. To do so, it might be required to have.

Interesting muddle.
On the one hand, the FDA advice says that the labeling requirement applies only to manufacturers (like CT). Then it goes on to say: "However, by not applying the label you (a user, not the manufacturer?) render it noncompliant and you could have difficulty in the future reselling it."
Noncompliant with what? If nothing else is clear here, it is at least clear that the FDA reg. only applies to the manufacturer. It appears to be just exactly like that label on your mattress.
Those two pieces of advice are not consistent, nor does the FDA offer any citation to support the second statement. The correct answer appears to be, I might just suggest, that the Feds. regulation applies only to the manufacturer, and not to the end user, even in the event of a resale. Some state, however, may have a regulation applying to the end user, or to a reseller. Certainly, anyway, I have seen nohing from any authority demonstrating otherwise.
So far as CT's language about keeping the label on the gun after they sell it is concerned, I see no support for that insofar as Federal regulations are concerned. I invite my good buddies at CT to clarify this for us.
I have always suspected that the language in the CT manual was generated by their lawyers, to hopefully avoid any liability if the laser is misused by an end user. Nothing wrong with that. Despite my love for CT, and I have 5 of their lasers, they have not, at least here, provided any regulatory support for that language.
In any event, all the above must be considered speculation on my part, but it does appear that the original question (on another thread), which started all this, has not been answered.
IMHO.

The short answere to your question is don't worry about the stickers. All companies selling lasers are required to install them on the product or to at least supply them to the end user, you.
The reason for the sticker is as a warning to any one that may come in contact with your laser. If some one sees your laser dot, I'll bet its not there to impress some one. Lets face it, that person is on the recieving end of something way worse than a red dot. I'll bet he or she or maybe some violent pit bull will care less if you have a sticker!

I never put the sticker on my handgun. I believe what comes out of the barrel is far more deadly and dangerous than a laser beam.
